I am in charge of teacher training at LAL Torbay, and we have been running and delivering DELTA courses for 12 years here. We also run CELTA courses and have been doing this for 20 years. During my 19 years at LAL, the number of CELTA courses has more than doubled, and I’ve been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to run courses in our LAL schools in Cape Town and Malta.
Before moving back to Torbay in 1989, I lived and worked in several different places. This included 3 years in Tokyo where I travelled around teaching business people for the first year, after which I found a job in a language school and taught a range of students aged from 3 to 70. I also spent nearly a year in Spain, teaching in a high school in Barcelona and on evening courses in Jerez de la Frontera.
My role as a Teacher Trainer is fulfilling and enjoyable because of the many different people I get to work with. I have trained teachers from a wide variety of teaching contexts from all over the world and enjoy seeing their different teaching styles.
Apart from teaching and teacher training, I am a writer and examiner for Cambridge Assessment. I have been involved in several interesting projects with them, including writing courses for the Cambridge English Teacher. I don’t have a lot spare time but when I do, I enjoy Zumba, jogging, walking on the coastal path and going to the theatre.
